The average prices of a gallon of self-service regular gasoline in Los Angeles and Orange counties were their lowest amounts on Thanksgiving since 2020 Thursday.
The Los Angeles County average price dropped nine-tenths of a cent Thursday to $4.447, its lowest amount since Dec. 26, 2022, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 1.1 cents less than one week ago, 10.1 cents lower than one month ago and 53.6 cents below what it was one year ago.
The average price has dropped $2.047 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price dropped three-tenths of a cent to $4.369, its lowest amount since Dec. 27, 2022. It is eight-tenths of a cent less than one week ago, 10.5 cents lower than one month ago and 46.3 cents below what it was one year ago.
The Orange County average price has dropped $2.09 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The average price on Thanksgiving 2020 was $3.153 in Los Angeles County and $3.124 in Orange County. Analysts attributed the relatively low average to the sharp decreases in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic because of reduced demand.
The national average price dropped eight-tenths of a cent to $3.065 after back-to-back increases totaling 1.7 cents. It is two-tenths of a cent more than one week ago but 6.5 cents less than one month ago and 18.1 cents lower than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.951 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
