The Angeles National Forest will remain closed to the public through Sunday because of critical fire danger and to protect natural resources.
During the closure, people are barred from entering the Angeles National Forest, traveling on any National Forest System road within the Angeles National Forest or using any National Forest System trail within the Angeles National Forest.
The restrictions apply to all visitors, including those with valid California Campfire Permits. Exemptions are granted only to federal, state, or local officers, or members of organized rescue or firefighting forces.
The fire danger level in the forest is critical and prompted the decision to close access to the forest areas. Violators will be subject to fines up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, and possibly prison.
The critical danger level is a result of the wildfires in the region, including the Eaton Fire which has burned more than 14,000 acres in Altadena and Pasadena.
The Angeles National Forest spans nearly 700,000 acres and provides a popular destination for outdoor recreation.
