The city of Calabasas has reached a tentative settlement in its legal action against Los Angeles County and Sanitation District No. 2 regarding the county’s plan to dispose of fire debris waste from January wildfires at the county-owned landfill that is operated by the Sanitation Districts and is located near Calabasas.
The tentative accord was announced during a hearing Thursday before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen I. Goorvitch, who placed a stay on the case at the parties’ request pending a July 30 status conference. All other pending hearings were vacated.
No details of the tentative deal were announced.
After the Palisades/Eaton Fires, Sanitation District 2 announced in late January that debris from those blazes would be permitted at the Calabasas landfill. Lawyers for the city maintained in the petition filed Jan. 20 that the dump is only certified to accept non-hazardous waste.
Last month, Goorvitch granted the city’s request to test debris taken to the landfill.
