A funeral service will be held Wednesday for a California Highway Patrol officer who suffered a medical emergency and crashed the SUV he was driving in Culver City while he and his partner were taking a DUI and drug possession suspect to jail.
Officer Miguel Cano, 34, was driving the patrol SUV around 12:30 a.m. July 2 near Bristol Parkway and Green Valley Circle when the vehicle crashed. According to the CHP, Cano and his partner had arrested a DUI suspect who was also allegedly found to be in possession of “a large quantity” of suspected cocaine.
Cano told his partner he was feeling ill, and moments later the cruiser went off the road and crashed into a tree. He was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he died.
The other officer and the suspect both suffered minor injuries.
“We are devastated by the loss of Officer Cano, who gave his life while serving the people of California,” CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said that day. “His dedication, courage and commitment to public safety will never be forgotten. We stand with his family and our CHP family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Duryee said that since the suspect had been in possession of drugs, Cano was administered the overdose remedy Narcan as a precaution. The crash occurred just a couple of blocks from the CHP’s West Los Angeles office where the suspect was being taken.
According to Duryee, Cano lived in Moreno Valley and was married but had no children.
He joined the CHP in 2023.

He Died because he was reckless driving without a license or even an driver’s education. I bet you if you look at the computer system in the vehicle he was doing well over a hundred miles an hour why it had somebody in the backseat of the vehicle. But this is what you get because how you won’t get them to drive down to the DMV to get a driver’s license. Nor will you implement anything that will give them any education and how to drive a vehicle down the road.

Denny’s going to go get four or five other people and bring them back to the same facility so he can get a trespassing warrant and some God unknown name that he couldn’t figure out whose name it was right.
Here I’m sitting over here on Wilshire boulevard and I’m watching the cops come up in it harass people put them in a handcuffs because they’re sitting on a public sidewalk trying to get them for trespassing and everything else for being on a public sidewalk in front of a restaurant or something makes no sense because they seem like they’re homeless so let’s go and fuck with them anyway right then I see a car parked on the side of the road a traffic controllers got it drive up to the car and ask the guy what he’s doing who matters what he’s doing he’s on the side of the road part. But how you got every monkey in the world thinking of the fucking president of the United States and they have to run the world that way cuz the hatred greed and corruption leads the way everyday for stupidity arrogance and unintelligent
