Monday’s $1.1 billion Powerball jackpot will be the fifth-largest in the game’s history, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.
No tickets were sold matching all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing, the 39th since the last time someone claimed the grand prize.
Nine tickets were sold matching five numbers, but missing the Powerball number — including four in California. One of those California tickets — which were worth $1,165,399 — was sold at the 7-Eleven at 2705 E. Huntington Drive in Duarte. The others were sold in Ontario, Pleasant Hill and Milpitas.
Saturday’s winning numbers were 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 and the Powerball number was 17. Saturday’s jackpot was $1 billion.
The largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history was the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won by Edwin Castro in November 2022. That ticket was sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in 292.2 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
Monday’s drawing will take place at 7:59 p.m. Tickets sold after 7:05 p.m. are only eligible for the following drawing, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the jackpot for California’s other multi-state lottery, the Mega Millions game, stands at $302 million for Tuesday’s drawing.
