A driver was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Claremont, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 8 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound freeway west of Monte Vista Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The preliminary investigation revealed a brown Mini Cooper had become disabled and was stopped, unoccupied, on the right shoulder of the freeway, the CHP said. A white Ford Focus sedan drifted to the right onto the shoulder and rear-ended the Mini Cooper, the CHP said.

The driver of the Focus suffered major injuries, the CHP said. Paramedics took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m. His name and age were not released pending notification of relatives.

A Sigalert issued at 8:26 a.m. shutting down lanes 3 and 4 of the eastbound freeway for the investigation was reopened as of 9:35 a.m.
