There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in the latest drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery, pushing the estimated jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing to $60 million.
A ticket with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, was sold at a pharmacy in Corona del Mar and is worth $5,104,960, the California Lottery announced.
Tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold outside California are worth a multiple of $1 million. However, California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis, meaning they are determined by sales and the number of winners.
The ticket’s base prize amount was $2,552,480, then doubled to $5,104,960 because the ticket’s multiplier was 2, according to the California Lottery. It would have been worth $4 million in other states.
The numbers drawn Friday were 34, 38, 42, 44, 69 and the Mega number was 8. The estimated jackpot was $50 million.
The drawing was the first since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 290,472,336, according to the Mega Millions Consortium, which conducts the game. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 23.
