The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts has appointed veteran theater producer and stage manager Jason Daunter as its new theater director, officials announced Monday.
Daunter will oversee planning, operations and management of the theater, its rehearsal hall and staff, according to the city of La Mirada.
“We are excited to have Jason join the City of La Mirada as our new Theatre Director,” City Manager Jeff Boynton said in a statement. “His extensive experience working with so many high-quality productions and organizations will be of tremendous benefit to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.”
Daunter has worked in professional theater for 25 years and has served as a production stage manager or production supervisor on Broadway productions and national tours including “Wicked,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” “West Side Story,” “Chicago” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
His regional theater experience includes work with the Geffen Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, The Muny and Segerstrom Center for the Arts, officials said.
Most recently, Daunter worked with Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment on the launch of the Disney Destiny cruise ship.
“I have spent my career at the intersection of artistic excellence and operational vision, and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is exactly the kind of institution where those two things matter equally,” Daunter said in a statement.
“The work done here is rooted in the community it serves. I look forward to the collaboration, building on the legacy, expanding our reach through bold programming and meaningful arts education, and continuing to make this theatre a very special home for artists and audiences alike.”
Daunter also has served as producing director for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, creative director for the American Theatre Wing’s Obie Awards and artistic director for the Educational Theatre Association.
The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts opened in 1977 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027.
