The Los Angeles County Development Authority announced Monday that registration has opened for 16 public housing waiting lists, including 10 for properties designated for elderly residents.

Interested residents can register for one or more of the site-based waiting lists through 5 p.m. Sept. 16, according to the LACDA. Waiting lists for designated small sites will close once 1,000 applications are received or at the Sept. 16 deadline, whichever comes first.

The county’s Section 8 waiting list remains closed.

The 10 elderly-designated properties are Carmelitos Senior in Long Beach, Rosas/Herbert Senior in East Los Angeles, Palm Senior and West Knoll Senior in West Hollywood, Marina Manor Senior in Marina del Rey, Foothill Villa Senior in La Crescenta, Orchard Arms Senior in Valencia, Francisquito Villa Senior in La Puente, Whittier Manor Senior in Whittier and South Bay Gardens Senior in South Los Angeles.

The six general-occupancy properties are Carmelitos Family in Long Beach, Harbor Hills Family in Lomita, East County Family in East Los Angeles, Santa Monica Family in Santa Monica, Quartz Hill Family in Quartz Hill and South Scattered Sites in South Los Angeles.

As housing units become available, registrants will be selected from each waiting list based on applicable preferences, followed by the date and time of registration, according to the agency.

Applicants may register for more than one waiting list, but anyone offered a unit from one of their selected lists who rejects the offer will be removed from all of the other waiting lists they selected, officials said.

For purposes of the elderly-designated properties, an elderly household is one in which the head, co-head, spouse or sole member is at least 62 years old. Such households can also include two or more people who are at least 62 living together, or one or more people at least 62 living with one or more live-in aides.

Smoking is prohibited on the grounds and inside housing units at all LACDA public housing developments.

The LACDA owns and operates 3,229 public and affordable housing units at 68 properties serving more than 6,650 residents. Public housing residents pay no more than 30% of their adjusted monthly gross income toward rent, according to the agency.

Registration is available online at harp.lacda.org/ex/NewApp.aspx or by calling 626-586-1522.

Additional information about the properties, including addresses, bedroom sizes and amenities, is available at lacda.org.
