Two suspects, a male and a female, are in custody after a short police pursuit ended with a stolen luxury SUV crashing into a retail store.

Both suspects attempted to flee the scene, but were caught at, or near the scene, police said.

Anaheim Police Department Lt. Bob Dunne said the male suspect had attempted to hide in a house near the scene after finding an open front door.

Dunne said the pursuit began around 2 a.m. on Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim, when officers attempted to stop a speeding Cadillac Escalade.

They gave chase along Harbor into Fullerton when the driver refused to stop, Dunne said.

The driver lost control as he was attempting to turn left off South Harbor into West Valencia Drive and crashed into a discount furniture store.

Broadcast footage showed the crash had extensively damaged the premises.

Dunne said roommates from a shared house had heard the crash and run to the scene. As they did so, the suspect walked through their open front door and attempted to hide in the house.

Other roommates raised the alarm, police were contacted and the suspect was arrested without incident, Dunne said.

The SUV had been reported stolen a week ago, Dunne said.
