A man helped his wife deliver their second daughter Monday in Irvine with some help from an Orange County Fire Authority dispatcher.
The father called 911 at 11:36 a.m. from Peony Street, explaining that his wife appeared ready to deliver their child at any moment, though the baby hadn’t been expected for another two weeks, according to OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi.
Dispatcher Mishele Richards helped talk the father through the delivery. Meanwhile, the couple’s other young daughter comforted her mom during labor, the captain said.
“The dad did a phenomenal job staying calm and helping his wife safely deliver a healthy baby girl,” Concialdi said.
When Orange County firefighters arrived, they took care of the infant and mother and let the father cut the cord, he said. Mother and baby were taken to Kaiser Hospital in Irvine, where they were “doing great” tonight, Concialdi said.
