A boy killed in a two-car collision in Huntington Beach was identified Friday by the Orange County coroner’s office.
Huntington Beach resident Austin Medina, 6, was pronounced dead at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange at 8:26 p.m. Thursday, according to the coroner’s office. He suffered fatal injuries when the 2014 Mazda 3 in which he was a rear-seat passenger collided with a silver 2003 Ford Escape at Bushard Street and Yorktown Avenue around 7:10 p.m. Thursday night, said Huntington Beach police traffic Sgt. David Dereszynski.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the silver Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Yorktown Avenue when it collided with the white Mazda 3 which was traveling northbound on Bushard Street,” he said.
A 68-year-old Santa Ana woman who had been driving a Ford Escape was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with minor injuries, Dereszynski said. She was interviewed by investigating officers and released.
The 37-year-old woman driving the Mazda 3 — the dead child’s mother — and her 11-year-old son were transported to UC Irvine Medical Center with minor injuries, he said.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Dereszynski said this morning. “No citations have been issued and no arrests have been made.”
