A 30-year-old Costa Mesa man was killed early Christmas morning when he apparently ran a red light and crashed his motorcycle into an SUV, a police sergeant said.

The victim was identified as Jonathan Vantrease by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

The crash was reported at 1:15 a.m. at Harbor Boulevard and 19th Street, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Patrick Wessel.

Vantrease was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:27 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

“The initial indication is that he (Vantrease) ran a red light,” Wessel said.

Vantrease was southbound on Harbor Boulevard and the SUV driver was westbound on 19th Street when they collided, Wessel said.

The driver remained at the scene to help police with the investigation and there were no citations, Wessel said. The investigation continues.
