Two people were hurt, one of them critically, when a car veered off a canyon road and overturned in the brush, authorities said.
The crash took place near the intersection of Shady Canyon Drive and Cloverfield about 11 p.m. Monday , according to Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Steve Concialdi and Irvine police Sgt. B. Miller.
The male driver and his female passenger were injured in the crash, Concialdi said. Both victims were in their mid 20s, he added.
“The woman who was a passenger was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by paramedics using the jaws of life,” Concialdi said. “She was transferred to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition.”
The driver, he said, was taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
Concialdi said paramedics from the OCFA and Newport Beach responded to the accident scene.
Investigators were expected to try to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
