Firefighters from three fire departments extinguished a three-alarm fire that destroyed two homes in Garden Grove, left a third with heat and water damage and caused a firefighter to suffer a minor injury.

The fire was reported in the 14400 block of Flower Street around 10:04 p.m. Thursday and was under control by midnight, a Garden Grove Fire Department dispatcher said.

The occupants of the two destroyed homes were absent, according to broadcast reports, but 12 people in the third residence were evacuated. Propane tanks could be heard exploding at the height of the blaze, and a firefighter was hospitalized with a minor injury, according to reports from the scene.

The fire appeared to have started in the backyard of one of the residences, a news videographer reported from the site.

Garden Grove firefighters were assisted by colleagues from the Anaheim Fire Department and Orange County Fire Authority.
