A standoff in Anaheim involving a possibly armed man thought to be under the influence of narcotics sitting on the roof of a home ended after about eight hours Sunday, police said.

Officers fired “water balls” at him and eventually subdued and arrested the man, Anaheim police Lt. Eric Trapp said.

The 32-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken by paramedics to an area hospital for evaluation, after which he will be booked and jailed, Trapp said.

The man already had two active arrest in addition to the charges he compiled today, the lieutenant said.

Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of West Chanticleer Road at 11:30 p.m. Saturday on a call of a violation of a court order, Trapp said.

When officers tried to make contact with the man he ran through the backyard of a home and onto a roof, he said.

Four residences were evacuated as a precaution, according to Trapp. “Whatever he was on appears to be wearing off,” Trapp said. “He (was) making some statements that (were) leading us to believe that he (was) armed.”

Just before 8 a.m. officers fired “water balls” — similar to paint balls — at the suspect, Trapp said.

“It doesn’t feel good,” he said. “After a couple of those, we were able to get on the roof.”
