A man apparently bent on committing suicide died in a deputy-involved shooting in Rancho Santa Margarita Tuesday.

The shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m. at a residence at 28 Paseo Viento, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.

Deputies were sent at about 2:10 p.m. to the address about a subject attempting suicide, Hallock said.

When deputies arrived, they entered the residence where they confronted Alec Ouzounian who was suffering from several self-inflicted stab wounds, Hallock said.

During the confrontation, a deputy-involved shooting occurred, he said.

Ouzounian was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The case is being investigated by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, which is routine for all deputy-involved shootings.
