A fire that apparently started in an exhaust fan in a bathroom resulted in about $450,000 in damage to the ASI Market & Deli in Mission Viejo, but no one was hurt, authorities said Thursday.
Firefighters sent to the 25500 block of Jeronimo Road at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday extinguished the flames in about 25 minutes, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.
The fire resulted in about $200,000 damage to the structure and $250,000 in damage to the contents, Concialdi said.
An exhaust fan was the apparent source of the fire, which may have been caused by the fan being left on longer than it should have, resulting in overheating, Concialdi said.
That type of fan is not designed to be left on for long periods of time, Concialdi said. The fire spread to combustibles that were being stored in the bathroom, Concialdi said.
Four employees were in the business at the time, but there were no customers, Concialdi said.
