Longtime civic volunteer Stephen J. Faessel was sworn in Tuesday as the city of Anaheim’s representative on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Faessel succeeds Donald Calkins, who had served as Anaheim’s representative since October.

Faessel is the merchandise manager for the 16-store Crown ACE Hardware chain based in Huntington Beach. He has taught courses in electricity, electrical codes and utility systems as a continuing education instructor for the North Orange County Community College District and is a longtime member of the National Fire Protection Association’s Electrical Section.

Faessel chairs the city of Anaheim’s Budget, Investment and Technology Committee, after serving on the Anaheim Planning Commission for seven years. He previously chaired the Anaheim Public Utility Board and served on the city’s General Plan Advisory Committee.

Faessel sits on the boards of Anaheim Museum Inc. and the Anaheim Community Foundation and is president of the Anaheim Mother Colony Household Inc. He is a founding member of the Anaheim MUZEO, where he currently serves as the foundation’s board secretary.

Faessel is past president of the Anaheim Historical Society Inc., for which the Orange County native continues to serve as its corresponding secretary, as well as the local chapter of the Native Sons of the Golden West. He served on and chaired the Orange County Historical Commission.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties.
