Nine members of the same family were hospitalized, three in critical condition, after their SUV overturned into a creek bed in Trabuco Canyon.

One of the critical victims was a 4-year-old boy, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Horner said. The other critical patients were a 47-year- old woman and a 19-year-old man, he said.

The single-vehicle collision was reported at 9:55 p.m. Friday on Trabuco Creek Road, about a quarter-mile from Trabuco Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

No extrications were required, but 23 firefighters treated the victims at the scene before they were transported, Horner said.

The other victims, who were hospitalized with minor injuries, were three boys, aged 14, 8 and 4 years old, two women aged 25 and 26, and a 40-year-old man, Horner said.

The home town of the victims was not known, Horner said.
