A tree trimmer working at 17th and Fairview streets in Santa Ana was struck and killed Friday afternoon by a hit-and-run driver, police said.
The man was picking up cones at the intersection when he was struck by a Chevrolet Impala, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
Orange County Fire Authority paramedics were called at 1:26 p.m. and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The driver kept going for another three blocks until the sedan broke down, Bertagna said, and the motorist and a passenger ran off. Police were searching the neighborhood for them, he said.
