Police recovered a stolen car in Garden Grove and arrested two men in their 20s, a sergeant said.
Officers responded to the area surrounding Garden Grove Boulevard and Yockey Street on Sunday afternoon to search for a stolen 2014 four-door, black BMW 328i from Huntington Beach that was being tracked by GPS, Garden Grove police Sgt. Phil Schmidt said.
The officers located the missing car in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 8800 Garden Grove Blvd. Sunday, he said.
The BMW’s license plates had been replaced with paper plates.
At the time the found the car, 28-year-old Richard Negrete of Westminster was removing items from the trunk of the car, Schmidt said. Police moved in an arrested Negrete at the car without incident.
After further investigation, police also arrested 21-year-old Johnny Hackett of Long Beach as well.
Both men were booked into the Orange County jail, Schmidt said.
Negrete was booked on possession of stolen property — a vehicle and unauthorized possession of found property. Hackett was booked on a charge of unauthorized possession found property.
The case against the two men was being sent to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
