A 16-year-old boy remained hospitalized in critical condition resulting from the solo crash of a car he was driving at high speed in Laguna Niguel, authorities said Friday.
It happened about 10:45 p.m. Thursday on Alicia Parkway near Niguel Road, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
The teen — who was not licensed to drive — apparently was speeding on southbound Alicia Parkway when the BMW M3 sedan went out of control and slammed into a power pole, Hallock said.
According to the preliminary investigation, alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Hallock said.
Firefighters freed the injured boy from the wreckage, Hallock said.
