State-hired professional trappers caught and euthanized a coyote linked to three biting incidents between May and October in the Portola Springs neighborhood on the north side of the city, according to Irvine police.
The community has been torn between animal lovers who did not want to see the coyote euthanized and other residents who feared for their safety, a police official said.
It’s possible the coyote was also responsible for another scratch and two other biting incidents, but officials could not confirm that, said Farrah Emami of the Irvine Police Department.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife handled the trapping and euthanizing of the coyote, Emami said.
