Smoldering mulch in the wake of a fire resulted in a lot of smoke calls to police and firefighters Wednesday and the closure of an Anaheim street.
The fire began early Tuesday afternoon at a tree disposal yard in the 1500 block of West Broadway, said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.
Anaheim firefighters quickly put out the flames, Wyatt said, but “since that time, the mulch has continued to smolder and is producing an excessive amount of smoke.”
As a result, about a block of Broadway is closed in both directions between Hessel and Mabel streets, he said.
“There is no danger of fire extension and no homes or businesses are in danger,” Wyatt said.
The city was working with the business owner to mitigate the smoldering as soon as possible.
