A single-engine plane made an emergency belly landing at John Wayne Airport Wednesday in Santa Ana, but the pilot, who was the sole occupant, escaped injury.

The landing was made just after 2:35 p.m. on one of the airport’s main runways, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

The Beech BE35 Bonanza’s nose and right main gear collapsed on landing on runway 20 right, according to Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

When firefighters arrived, the uninjured pilot was standing next to the plane, he said.
