A man in his mid-20s was stabbed at a Costa Mesa motel early Monday morning, but is expected to survive, a fire captain said.

Paramedics were called by police to the Motel 6 at 2274 Newport Blvd. about 4:15 a.m. to tend to the victim, who was stabbed several times in the abdomen, Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Chris Coates said.

The 25-year-old Newport Beach man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, Coates said.

The victim had gotten into some sort of altercation with a woman, and a short time later a white Dodge Charger pulled into the motel’s parking lot and a man got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and confronted the victim, police said.

The man and woman who had gotten into the conflict with the victim then fled. Police did not speculate on a motive, and said it was unclear what — if any — relationship the victim had to the suspects, who appeared to be in their mid-20s.

The Dodge Charger had a license plate number of 7GGU549.

Anyone who might have information helpful to police was asked to call Detective Rob Dimel at (714) 754-5353.
