A 21-year-old man who vandalized property at and near a Sikh temple in Buena Park was sentenced Tuesday to perform 240 hours of graffiti removal.

Brodie Durazo of Buena Park struck a plea deal on Feb. 22, but then failed to show up for sentencing on April 5, which could have jeopardized the plea agreement.

Durazo was also placed on three years of informal probation and was sentenced to 10 days in jail, which was suspended as long as he completes the community service.

Durazo pleaded guilty to vandalism of religious property and two counts of vandalism with less than $400 in damage.

The vandalism was reported Dec. 6 — four days after the mass shooting attack by husband and wife terrorists in San Bernardino that claimed 14 lives.

When Durazo was arrested in December, police said he admitted to vandalizing a truck, a wall in the temple’s parking lot and a building nearby at 7142 Orangethorpe Ave.

Police investigated the graffiti as a possible hate crime due to a profane reference to the Islamic militant group Islamic State group on the truck, although the vandalism on the temple’s parking lot wall did not reference Islam.
