Two young men who stole a case of beer and threatened the clerk who tried to stop them with a wrench were arrested, the Fountain Valley Police reported Saturday.

The robbery took place about 7 p.m. Friday at the 7-Eleven store located at 10950 Warner Ave., Fountain Valley police Lt. Matt Sheppard said.

The two men, 19-year-old Andre Garcia of Santa Ana and 25-year-old Richard Figueroa of Huntington Beach, were in the process of stealing a case of beer when they were confronted by a clerk, Sheppard said.

Garcia responded by threatening to hit the clerk with 18-inch lug nut wrench, Sheppard continued. The clerk then backed off and the men left the store, got into a white car and fled south through the parking lot.

The first officer at the scene broadcasted a description of the car. Another officer heading east eventually stopped the car on Harbor Boulevard. Both men were identified by the clerk and arrested for robbery, Sheppard added. Police also recovered the beer and the wrench from the car.

Each of the men were being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to Orange County jail records. Both were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Central Jail Court.
