A backpack with wires protruding from it prompted the evacuation of two government buildings in Santa Ana Tuesday, one for federal offices and the other for state employees, but the bag was ultimately determined to be harmless.
Federal authorities found the backpack about 3:40 p.m. at 34 Civic Center Plaza, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. Bomb squad personnel from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were summoned and they determined the bag was harmless, Bertagna said.
The federal building and a state building at 28 Civic Center Plaza were evacuated for about an hour, Bertagna said.
