A 25-year-old Long Beach man was behind bars Monday on suspicion of committing more than a dozen residential burglaries in the Irvine area, police said.

Willy San was arrested Friday near his residence, according to Farrah Emami of the Irvine Police Department.

Police suspect he committed 14 burglaries and made two additional attempts in April and May in the Woodbury neighborhood, Emami said.

An Irvine woman called police on May 13 when a man she did not know knocked on her door and asked for someone who did not live there, Emami said. The resident called police because it felt suspicious, she said.

Another neighbor two doors down called police when she saw a suspect jump a side gate into her backyard, Emami said. The woman shouted at the man, who jumped back over the gate and ran to a vehicle.

The neighbor jotted down the license plate number of the car, which led police to San, who is suspected of renting the vehicle, Emami said.

San was being held on $500,000 bail.
