Police were searching Sunday for a gunman in a drive-by shooting who fatally shot one man and critically wounded another outside a home in Westminster.
Paramedics rushed both men to UC Medical Center in Irvine, initially in critical condition, according to Westminster Police Sgt. Eddie Esqueda.
The 19-year-old man who was shot in the head succumbed to his injuries this afternoon, Esqueda said. The other victim, a 20-year-old man who was wounded in the stomach, remained in critical condition Saturday night.
Both victims were from Westminster. The name of the deceased was withheld pending notification to his next of kin.
The shooting took place about 10:25 p.m. Friday in the 15800 block of Maybrook Street, Esqueda said.
“We know at this point that the suspect fired multiple shots from an unknown type of vehicle. The victims had just arrived home when the shooting occurred,” Esqueda said. “The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time.”
No suspect description was available, Esqueda added.
