Fountain Valley Police officers and emergency room medical staff saved the life of a baby, after the infant had stopped breathing, a lieutenant said.

Officers responded about 2:30 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 11000 block of Slater Avenue in response to a 911 call about an infant that had stopped breathing, Fountain Valley police Lt. Matt Sheppard said.

The first officer at the scene found a 4-month old infant that was not breathing being held by his parents, Sheppard continued. That officer began CPR on the baby and when the second officer arrived they decided to take the baby to a hospital while one of the officers continued performing CPR.

Emergency room personnel were able to revive the child, Sheppard said. Staffers also told police the actions of the officers and their quick response likely helped save the baby’s life.
