A three-alarm fire damaged a few apartments in Garden Grove and displaced 12 residents.

No injuries were reported in the fire that broke out at 9741 Bixby Ave., said Garden Grove Fire Department Capt. Thanh Nguyen.

The first-arriving engine company reported fire showing from a second- story window that was extending to the third floor of a three-story apartment building, Nguyen said. A total of three alarms were requested to contain the fire in 31 minutes, he added Monday.

All residents were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived.

The Garden Grove Building Department determined three units were uninhabitable, Nguyen said. Six adults and six children were displaced and the Red Cross was on scene to assist.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, with unattended cooking contributing to it, Nguyen said. Damage was estimated at $500,000 to the structure and $150,000 to contents.
