A suspected car thief who led police on a chase through northern Orange County was in custody Friday.
Garden Grove officers received information about a suspect named in a no-bail warrant who was possibly in possession of a stolen vehicle around 9 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle was located near Trask Avenue and Euclid Street and officers attempted to pull it over, but the driver failed to comply and a chase ensued, said Garden Grove Police Lt. Tom DaRe.
The pursuit traveled through numerous cities. Garden Grove officers stopped chasing the vehicle in Orange, DaRe said.
A police helicopter was monitoring the path of the vehicle and, as it entered Santa Ana, officers there took over the pursuit.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jacob Francisco Rodriguez, abandoned the vehicle in the 1200 block of West St. Anne Place in Santa Ana and fled on foot, entering several residential yards, DaRe said.
With the assistance of the police helicopter, a perimeter was established and Rodriguez was taken into custody around 10:25 p.m. Thursday amid a yard-to-yard search, Santa Ana Police reported.
Rodriguez was taken to the Garden Grove Police Jail, DaRe said.
