Firefighters put out an attic fire Saturday at a home in Irvine that may have been ignited by a faulty heater.
“She (the homeowner) stated that she hadn’t turned it (the heater) on for a while,” Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Stephen Horner said. “She turned on the heater and it didn’t sound normal. She saw some smoke.”
A neighbor called 911, and firefighters dispatched at 7:40 a.m. to 12 Capistrano reported seeing smoke coming from the home’s attic vents, Horner said.
Firefighters had the fire out at 7:53 a.m. and no injuries were reported, he said.
“Residents need to check their heaters and clean out the dust and debris that has collected over the summer months,” Horner said. “That way it will prevent or reduce these types of incidents. She (the homeowner) did pay attention to the working smoke alarm.”
