A 23-year-old Oceanside man died Saturday when his motorcycle crashed into three vehicles on the San Diego (5) Freeway in Mission Viejo, authorities said.

It happened at about 1:15 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5 at Crown Valley Parkway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer E. James.

The man was riding a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle on the freeway when he braked and swerved to the right, losing control of the motorcycle, James said.

The man and the motorcycle slid into the number 3 lane and collided with a 1997 Chevrolet driven by a 79-year-old man and the motorcycle then hit a 2013 MBZ driven by a Dana Point woman and a 2016 Volvo driven by a 52-year-old Lynwood man, James said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, James said. His name was withheld pening notification of kin.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down lanes 4 and 5 of the northbound freeway. All lanes were reopened at 3:48 p.m.
