Brea Police on Saturday urged residents to be on the lookout for coyotes who might be more agitated in the coming weeks because it’s mating season.

Coyotes mate during January and February and pups are born late March through late May, police said.

Coyotes pairing up to breed might be more territorial than usual and defensive of the space they have chosen to have their young, police said.

They advised citizens to be aware of the coyotes’ presence and potential for conflicts with humans, police said.
