A 40-year-old transient was charged Thursday with injuring two Fountain Valley officers in a tussle with them as they attempted to arrest him from a used vehicle dealer lot.

William Wright was charged with two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of assault on a peace officer and a count of resisting arrest resulting in an injury to an officer, all felonies.

Police were called to FAM Vans, 10870 Kalama River Ave., just after 10 a.m. Tuesday when a transient “was causing a scene at the business” and refused to leave, according to Fountain Valley police Sgt. Tony Luce.

When officers arrived he became “confrontational” with them and began wrestling with them as they attempted to take him into custody, Luce said.

The officers were hurt when they tumbled over a short wall as they tried to restrain the defendant, Luce said.

One of the officers injured his thumb and the other hurt his back and foot, Luce said. They were checked out by doctors and did not need to be hospitalized, he said.

Wright was being held on $20,000 bail.
