Five people were hurt, including one with critical injuries, in a midnight house fire that killed several cats and a dog in Santa Ana Sunday.
Firefighters were dispatched at 11:47 p.m. Saturday to the single-story home in the 4800 block of Morningside Avenue.

They had the fire out at 12:23 a.m., said Capt. Tony Bommarito of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Paramedics rushed one person in critical condition and three others in stable-but-guarded condition to an area hospital. A fifth person was injured but turned down a ride to a hospital, Bommarito said.
No other details about the blaze were available, including a possible cause.
