A 13-year-old boy allegedly stabbed and critically injured his 30-year-old mother in Garden Grove Wednesday, police said.
Officers were dispatched at about 5:45 p.m. to the 11000 block of Gilbert Street to investigate a report that a female had been stabbed, after a witness called to say the victim was on the ground in front of a residence suffering from wounds to her abdomen, according to Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney.

Officers arrived and provided first aid to the woman, who reported that she had been attacked by her 13-year-old son, Whitney said.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical condition, he said.
“Officers checked the residence but did not locate the suspect,” the sergeant said. “A short time later, officers searching the area found the suspect at a shopping center a half mile away.”
The boy was taken into custody without further incident.
Police did not release the names of the boy or his mother.
A section of Gilbert Street was closed for several hours while detectives investigated the stabbing.
