Were drugs or alcohol involved in a crash that killed a man in a wheelchair on a Stanton sidewalk?
Authorities say they have not ruled out that possibility in a deadly accident at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Beach Boulevard and Chapman Avenue, according to the Orange County Register.
The wheelchair victim, 64, was taken to a hospital where he died, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Wayne Rehnelt told the newspaper.
An Acura and a Nissan Murano were traveling south on Beach Boulevard when the Acura came into contact with the Nissan, causing the Acura driver to lose control of the vehicle that rolled over a curb and struck the wheelchair victim, sheriff’s Lt. Lane Lagaret told reporters at the scene.
The Acura continued through the sidewalk and onto Chapman Avenue before hitting parked cars and coming to a stop, Lagaret said. The driver of the Acura remained at the scene, the Register reported.
Lagaret said drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out as factors in the accident.
