A motorist in an SUV was killed but his passenger is expected to survive his injuries after their vehicle crashed into a power pole in Garden Grove Saturday and flipped over, landing on its roof.
The silver 2017 Toyota SUV was going northbound on West Street, just south of Chapman Avenue, when it struck an Edison power pole, which was sheared off, said Traffic Investigator Royce Wimmer of the Garden Grove Police Department.
The Toyota then flipped over and came to stop on its roof in the No. 2 lane of northbound West Street, Wimmer said.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 3:17 a.m., where a passenger in the vehicle was partially ejected and the driver was trapped inside the Toyota, he said.
Paramedics rushed both people to UCI Medical Center where the driver died from his injuries. His passenger was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.
The Garden Grove Police Department asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (714) 741-5230.
