A 33-year-old man was killed and at least six other people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Sunday on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Westminster.

The crash that claimed the life of Matthew Ward of Anaheim happened just after 9 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway at the Beach Boulevard offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Orange County coroner’s office.

Ward died at the scene.

The crash left crash debris on both directions of the 405, snarling traffic on both sides of the freeway, the CHP said.

A SigAlert was issued at 9:23 a.m. as the southbound 405’s four left lanes were blocked, as well as the two left lanes of the northbound freeway.

Northbound lanes were cleared after 20 minutes, but some southbound lanes were blocked for hours.
