A suspect and a California Highway Patrol officer were injured in a scuffle, and gunfire, Sunday in Dana Point, authorities said.
It happened at 1:30 a.m. in the Dana Strand beach parking lot near Pacific Coast Highway, Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Gil said.
The CHP officer suffered minor injuries that were not related to the shooting, and the suspect fled the scene, said Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies located the suspect at approximately 4 a.m. Authorities did not release where the suspect was found, Braun said.
“The suspect was taken into custody and had sustained injuries from the officer-involved shooting,” she said. “The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
The CHP officer was treated and released at a hospital, Braun said.
Details on what led up to the shooting and the nature of the officer’s and suspect’s injuries were not available. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department was investigating, Gil said.
