A search for car theft suspects Friday led to the lockdown of a high school in Santa Ana.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crew received a “LoJack hit” for a stolen car and then located the vehicle, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Officers on the road were directed to the stolen vehicle, whose driver refused to pull over, prompting a short pursuit at 9:50 a.m., Bertagna said.

The driver and two other suspects bailed out of the car at St. Gertrude Place and Rene Drive, which is about a block away from Valley High School, triggering a campus lockdown while police searched for the male suspects, Bertagna said.

The driver was arrested right away and another suspect was caught soon afterward, Bertagna said. A third suspect was found hiding in a trash can in the rear of a home, he said.
