Another 51 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Long Beach Saturday.

New data also showed that an additional 61 people were hospitalized Friday, according to Long Beach public health officials.

The total number of positive cases is 1,271 since the beginning of the outbreak. The numbers continue to fluctuate “due to the wider scope of testing criteria and a backlog at various labs,” officials said.

Of the 51 new deaths, 40 were residents of long-term care facilities. These cases included both facility residents and staff members (who may not be residents), and ll had underlying heath problems.

One of those fatalities was a person in their 40s, 13 were between 50-70, and 37 were over age 70.

There have been 362 positive cases confirmed at 23 of the city’s 93 long-term care facilities in the city since the start of the pandemic. The Health Department said it was currently monitoring long-term care facilities with active cases.
