A person was killed Saturday in a head-on crash near the county’s eastern border north of Blythe.

The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on the southbound side of U.S. Route 95 near the Whipple Mountains Wilderness Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Shortly after the crash, a CHP dispatcher received a report that one of the drivers was unresponsive and not breathing.

Personnel from the Riverside County coroner’s office were later requested on scene, according to the CHP.

It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured or what led to the crash.
