A woman jumped to her death Friday from a freeway overpass, landing near the center divider of the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona.
The death resulted in a massive traffic jam as freeway lanes were immediately shut down.
There was no immediate word of the woman’s identity, nor what may have prompted the suicide.
California Highway Patrol officers were initially dispatched at 12:01 p.m. to the Orange (57) Freeway at the eastbound 10, said CHP Officer Peter Nicholson.
A representative from the coroner’s office was dispatched to the scene at 12:15 p.m., the CHP said.
A Sigalert issued at 12:16 p.m. closing all lanes of the eastbound freeway was revised at 12:28 p.m. to just the No. 1 and 2 lanes for unknown duration.
