The mysterious deadly tragedy of an 80-year-old bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Newport Beach in the dark around 1:40 in the morning was being investigated Monday by police.
The dead man was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as Ernest Adams of Newport Beach.
Authorities provided few details about the victim or the crash when they released his identification Sunday.
Adams was riding the bike when he was hit by the vehicle on a Newport Beach street on March 29, the coroner’s office reported.
Adams was taken to the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana where he later died.
The death was being investigated by Newport Beach police.
There was no other information from the coroner’s office or the police about the reason Adams was riding the bike at that early hour or his background or housing experience.
There was also no word from authorities about the driver of the vehicle that killed Adams. However, they did not indicate if they thought any legal violation had been committed.
